Tips for using your flat iron

One of my friends only just started to straighten her hair with a flat iron and she was complaining to me on the phone last night that she seemed to be noticing her hair falling out. I gave her some tips on how to use the straightener properly, but thought it would be good to share those. Here are my top tips:

  • Make sure your using a good quality flat iron with ceramic or ceramic & tourmaline plates as these do less damage to the hair, oh and don't forget to read the insturctions that come with them!
  • Don't use them on wet hair unless you have bought a flat iron that specifically says it is for wet to dry use. If you just have a standard flat iron then you will need to blow dry your hair first.
  • Part your hair into sections, bringing the flat iron down from the top to the bottom. You need to do this fairly quickly otherwise some parts of the hair will get too much heat. Again the better quality flat irons glide over the hair more easily and will not pull at your hair.
  • Buy an after care hair serum to keep your hair healthy.
